The Watching Videos Like a Historian webinar series aims to provide guidance on how to effectively integrate audiovisual materials into the teaching process. This series will consist of three different episodes and is part of the project under the same name (Watching Videos Like a Historian), funded by the European Union. It will take place between the months of October and December (see the dates and times below). The series is intended for teachers and educators from all EU countries, however, other participants are also welcome.
This webinar will focus on providing teachers with hands-on activities to create engaging lessons for their classrooms. Each episode will highlight a different domain of the Media Literacy Competence Framework, which outlines the key steps for history education to develop media literacy skills in students. The Framework is part of the Watching Videos Like a Historian Toolkit, which will be shared with participants during the webinar.
In addition, this webinar offers a unique opportunity for educators to:
- Learn how to consult the Media Literacy Competence Framework when planning lessons. This Framework provides structured approaches to guide students in transforming from mere media consumers to critical analysers of (historical) content.
- Access ready-made resources from the Watching Videos Like a Historian Toolkit, which provides ready-to-use materials, including audiovisual galleries, teaching strategies, and e-learning activities tailored specifically for history educators. Attending will give you direct early access to these resources to enrich your curriculum.
- Join a community of history educators across Europe and beyond who are working towards a common goal of improving media literacy and historical understanding in the digital age. Share experiences, exchange ideas, and collaborate on best practices for teaching with audiovisual sources.
- Be part of an initiative funded by the European Union that promotes innovative teaching methods. By attending, you improve your skills and contribute to the future of history education across Europe.
