Secretariat staff
The dedicated and close-knit EuroClio staff work out of our Secretariat, based in The Hague – the International City of Peace and Justice. Managed by an Executive Director and Deputy Director, with others acting as Project Managers, Programme Directors, and Research Coordinators, considerable expertise is shared within the team. This office supports the association by delivering services to Members, Partners and the Board. The majority of its efforts focus on implementing projects and actions identified in the annual Action Plan according to its five Areas of Work and four Topics of Work. Project Managers are responsible for a wide range of projects. The Programme Director and Research Coordinator design and oversee complementary actions. The Director has overall responsibility and fosters partnership development and advocacy.

The Secretariat offers traineeships to students from Europe and beyond and provides real work experience – balancing responsibilities with opportunities to learn and grow.
The Secretariat staff is a truly international one, coming from six different countries and speaking a total of 9 languages: Armenian, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Russian, and Spanish.

Alice Modena
Alice Modena is Deputy Director and Professional Development Coordinator at EuroClio, where she has been working since September 2018. She is involved in the design, management, and coordination of our (online) training programmes, including EuroClio Annual Conferences and online courses. She is also project manager of EuroClio projects dealing with European history and social inclusion. She comes from Italy, has a BA in International and Diplomatic Sciences, a MA in Human Rights and Multilevel Governance and a Master in Global Marketing, Communication, and Made in Italy. She is especially interested in the role of history education and intercultural competences as a means to promote social inclusion and human rights.Project Manager
AboutAndreas Holtberget
Andreas Holtberget
Andreas Holtberget is Project Manager and Communications Officer at EuroClio, where he has been working since June 2019. He is coordinating EuroClio’s outreach efforts while also contributing to EuroClio projects, including Football Makes History and initiatives in Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan. He has several years’ experience in project management and the development of adult learning programmes, having previously worked with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He has MAs in European Studies and in International History.Project Manager
AboutCatherine Savitsky
Catherine Savitsky
Catherine Savitsky is Project Manager and Fundraiser at EuroClio, where she has been working since December 2019. She oversees all fundraising activities of the organisation, including monitoring opportunities, drafting applications, and maintaining relations with current and potential donors. She manages the Learning History that is not yet History II project in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, and has an academic background studying curriculum and textbook politics in the Western Balkans, holding a BA in History and European Studies and an MA in Russian and European Affairs from the University of Toronto. She is particularly interested in post-Soviet and post-Yugoslav transitions, as well as the politics of public memory.Project Manager
AboutEugenie Khatschatrian
Eugenie Khatschatrian
Eugenie is Project Manager and Operations Coordinator at EuroClio, where she has been working since January 2020. Together with the Executive and Deputy Directors, she is responsible for the day-to-day management of the organisation as well as strategy development and implementation. She is Project Manager of In Europe Schools and Sharing European Histories and has a particular interest in education for democracy and post-conflict reconciliation in the post-Soviet space. Previously, Eugenie worked at the International Institute for Social History and the Eurasia Partnership Foundation, as well as other civil society organisations, research institutes and think tanks in the fields of social history, human rights and democracy in Europe and the South Caucasus. She holds a BA in European Studies from the University of Amsterdam and an MSc in International History from the London School of Economics and Political Science.Project Manager
AboutPaula O’Donohoe
Paula O’Donohoe
Paula holds a BA in Social and Cultural Anthropology and an Erasmus Mundus MA in European Studies. She is currently doing her PhD on the intergenerational transmission of memories in Spain at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Some of her previous research interests are dissonant heritage and the narration of memories. Paula started with EuroClio in 2022 and is Project Manager & Research Coordinator.Executive director
AboutSteven Stegers
Steven Stegers
Steven Stegers is the Executive Director of EuroClio – European Association of History Educators. At EuroClio, he has developed and coordinated international projects to enhance history and citizenship education since 2006. He has been an advisor for the Council of Europe, the Global Centre for Pluralism, the European Commission, KAICIID Dialogue Centre, the OSCE HCNM and the International Baccalaureate. He has coordinated the development of the award winning Historiana platform, which is designed for and with educators to promote quality history, heritage and citizenship education. More than 300 people from over 30 countries contributed to its development so far.
