The EVZ Foundation is offering a funding opportunity to support locally and regionally active history initiatives from Central and Eastern Europe. Funding is provided for projects aimed at addressing and remembering the period of National Socialism and World War II.
How present is the past in our local communities? Why is learning about racist National Socialist politics still relevant today? What does this particular period of history teach us? How do we keep the memory of those alive, who had been persecuted during German occupation? How can we support civil society and non-profit organizations while defending human rights and democratic values in times when Ukraine is in a state of war since 2014 and the Russian full-scale aggression took place in 2022?
Local history approaches convey historical contexts directly and connect general historical narratives with particular local events. The focus on local and regional references to history makes it possible to spotlight concrete places, biographies and relevant events, thus enabling a more direct understanding and yielding educational work. In light of these considerations, the EVZ Foundation supports locally and regionally active history initiatives from Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine that commemorate, educate and deal with local history and currently relevant issues.
This call for applications is addressed to non-profit organizations working on local history in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
The deadline for the applications is 15 February, 2024.
