Regional Cooperation: Call for Applications

The Aims

In our diverse European society we cannot escape history when seeking to understand the present in our search for a common future. EuroClio and the Evens Foundation have been working together for a few years now aiming to open up spaces to challenge dominant national narratives and to engage with the complexity, multiplicity and transnationality of European history and history teaching. We believe this is a necessary first step that allows and supports educators and their students to discover common positions or overcome divisions while acknowledging existing differences. 


We also believe that supporting transnational exchange and peer learning between history educators from the bottom-up, increases the probability that initiatives also answer educators’ real needs on the ground. We hope it will lead to more transnational cooperation between history educators and EuroClio’s member associations to enhance history education in Europe. 

What are we looking for? 

With the Regional Cooperation call we will support EuroClio members to develop or strengthen the transnational dimension of their capacity building activities such as workshops, summer schools or seminars. Regional Cooperation grants are dedicated to cross-border professional development, scaling up the already existing activities and making them more accessible for regional partners (i.e. a summer school, teacher training event).

The activity should address at least one of the objectives of the EU operating grant that EuroClio is receiving. These are: 1) Building the capacity of national or regional organisations working in the field of European Remembrance. 2) Building and increasing the capacity of network partners to develop coherent and coordinated activities to make history education more multiperspective and/or transnational. 3) Expand the EuroClio’s reach, including new partners. 4) A measurable increase in the impact of the EuroClio’s activities in the field of European Remembrance.

We offer 8 grants of 6.000 euros. The grant covers up to 5.000 euros hard costs (which can be used for travel, stay, accommodation, translation, interpretation, printing and other costs where you get a receipt) and a 1.000 euros fee for the organisers. No co-financing is required. 

What are the requirements? 

  • You need to be a EuroClio member association
  • You can team up with other associations and form a consortium, but it is also possible for associations to apply by themselves.
  • To be eligible for a  grant, the lead applicant should be based in the EU, and the activities should take place in the EU. However, non-EU members can also participate in the scheme as partners
  • At least 3 people from 3 different countries need to take up an active role in the event (speaker, workshop host, facilitator)
  • At least 25 participants need to attend the event.
  • The grant needs  to be spent by the end of calendar year 2023 
  • A report of the event, with a 1-page summary of what happened, photos, the programme and a signed participants list need to be submitted by the end of 2023 as well. 

In addition, it is necessary to 

  • Timing of the event between 15 August-30 November 2023.
  • Reserve 15 minutes in the programme to share resources and information from EuroClio and the Evens Foundation.
  • Be available for an interview between 29 June – 7 July 2023.

  • Quality of the programme
  • Motivation of the application
  • Quality of the programme
  • Relevance of teh proposal to the objectives of the call
  • Multiplying effect (synergies with other initiatives, potential for follow-up and future cross-border collaborations)
  • Expected impact of the proposal (legacy of the event, use of the resources)
  • Feasibility of the proposal

  • 10 July 2023 Selection of the projects 
  • 15 August-30 November 2023 Regional activities
