What can we learn about the various forms of discrimination in Football?
This source collection has been developed to help students aged 15-18 learn about the issues of discirmination in football. This resource provides a range of the unfortunately large number of episodes in which football-related discrimination has taken place. The selection tries to cover a large spectrum of victims who had suffered various forms of hostility because of:
- the colour of their skin
- their gender
- ethical or religious beliefs
- political ideas
What are the reasons for discrimination and how have they changed during the last century?
Many of the episodes take place in strictly contemporary times, but some of them are related with 20th century dictatorships, such as Italian fascism and Spanish Francoism. Analysing them, students can have an idea of the many reasons why a player can suffer discrimination, but also how it changed during the last century, how many “steps forward” have been done and how many are yet to be done.
All the articles are bound to create discussion, so they are especially useful for group work, open questions and activities like “Find another example in your country” can easily be done.

Find out what New Students Bring to the Classroom
As a response to an increase in new students in the Swedish educational system, the Swedish Board of Education tasked a group of schools and universities to find a way to assess what newly arrived students know in order to provide the best possible education for each student, as well as focusing on their strengths rather than their weaknesses. This resulted in the formation of materials for conducting discourse around history for the purpose of assessing the historical competencies of newly arrived students. This is done in the form of a 70-minute conversation between a teacher and a student. The assessment is meant to provide valuable insight into what the students are already familiar with, so that teachers can take this into account when creating lesson plans.
