A new approach towards online and blended education

Innovation Station is a newly launched initiative that aims to connect students and teachers across Europe and join their forces in finding solutions to everyday challenges of online and blended learning. Throughout the pandemic, OBESSU conducted a needs analysis through surveys and consultations with over 1000 students and teachers across Europe, shedding light on student and teacher experiences in online learning. This research demonstrated that teachers oftentimes struggle with a lack of control in the online learning environment that negatively impacts practical subjects, and affects the implementation of effective assessment methods (e.g.) inhibiting students’ learning, overall wellbeing and long term academic progress.
As a response to these challenges, Innovation Station empowers educators, education practitioners and students to discover new methods and practices that support innovative online and blended learning that can be easily implemented in education systems throughout Europe. With your input, the initiative will develop:
- Guidelines for educators, providing methods and practices for online and blended learning;
- Online training for students, focusing on self-directed and self-paced learning;
- Policy recommendations on the changes necessary in the educational system to foster a sustainable learning environment.
We are currently inviting education practitioners and teachers across Europe to participate in the Innovation Station Exchange Seminar taking place from 4 – 9 November 2022 (including travelling days) in Brussels, Belgium. Practitioners and educators from different backgrounds and educational disciplines are welcome to apply.
At the Exchange Seminar, you will have the opportunity to meet with colleagues and students from all over Europe to share your experiences and jointly brainstorm on potential solutions and innovative methods for online and blended learning.
What are we looking for?
We are specifically looking for motivated practitioners and educators who are determined to help improve the education system and quality of online and blended learning through transnational collaboration with colleagues and students. Ideally, you:
- Teach at secondary school level (all levels);
- Are proficient in English (B2 Level);
- Have experience with online and blended learning;
- Have an extensive national or international network to help disseminate the project outputs.
Our ideal education practitioner would also:
- Have an academic background in pedagogy or curriculum development;
- And/or has been involved in policy-making or developing policy recommendations;
- And/or has experience in the non-formal education sector.
What do we offer?
We offer an inspiring and transnational co-creation environment, in which you will have the opportunity to meet with colleagues, students and experts in the field of online and blended learning. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the organisers. The Exchange Seminar will also include optional cultural activities in Brussels.

You can apply for the Innovation Station Exchange Seminar by sending your CV, Letter of Motivation and Letter of Support from your institution confirming your availability for taking part in the Exchange Seminar, to Eugenie Khatschatrian (eugenie@euroclio.eu). Your Letter of Motivation must cover the following:
- Why do you think it is important to participate in the Exchange Seminar?
- What are, you think, potential solutions and methods to improve the online learning environment?
The deadline for applications is Sunday 25 September 2022 at 12:00 CEST.
Please note that a total of five education practitioners and ten secondary school educators will be selected from different countries across Europe. The Consortium strives to have a gender balance, geographical spread and a balance between STEM and Humanities.
