Call for Applications – ENRS’ free summer school In Between? 2024

Call for Applications – ENRS’ free summer school In Between? 2024

Call for applications, ENRS yearly project In Between?

2 – 13 September 2024, Poland, Estonia, Finland

Our friends at ENRS have recently issued a call for applications for their long-running project In Between?

‘In Between?’,  is an educational project running since April 2016, aims to explore the history of the 20th century and its legacy in border regions. The participants are given the opportunity to conduct oral history research in European borderlands. Gaining theoretical knowledge and interdisciplinary and practical skills, they record history’s witnesses, local activists and representatives from local institutions, in order to create a podcast about the specificities of the border region they visit

This year’s iteration will explore the complex memory of interaction between different people in two regions: 1) Masuria, a Polish region historically part of Prussia and 2) The sea border and interactions between Helsinki in Finland and Tallinn in Estonia.

The project will take place between 2nd-13th of September. The participants will first meet in Warsaw for a three day workshop on interviewing techniques, oral history and audio documentation methods, before they will be divided into two teams and sent to the regions. Here they will stay one week and meet with history witnesses, scholars, representatives of local institutions and local activists in order to make recordings for an audio documentary about the history and life of the inhabitants of the region visited.

Applicants must be students between the ages of 18 and 26 with at least two semesters of studying completed. The deadline for applying is the 5th of May.

Interested? You can read more about the program and the application procedure over at their website.
