Call for Applications: Budapest Academy

Call for Applications: Budapest Academy

Call for Applications: Budapest Academy

We are pleased to announce our new project Four Parallel Angles: Making Visegrad Histories Digital (2023-2025), which will develop “Module Kits” on the following topics of post-WWII history in Poland, Hungary, and Czechoslovakia:

  1. Media, propaganda, & censorship.
  2. Economy & industry.
  3. Culture (music, fashion, movies).
  4. Everyday life.
  5. 1956 Hungarian Revolution & 1968 Prague Spring.
  6. 1980 Solidarity & 1989 Change of Regime.
  7. Public spaces (statues, squares).
  8. Nostalgia and memory of communism.*

As part of our new project, join us for a weekend Teacher Training Program on 17-19 November in Budapest, Hungary on teaching about state socialism. All travel, accommodation and meals will be covered or reimbursed. We will be doing:

  • Workshops, networking, and cultural programmes;
  • Recruiting for Team Members for the project.

We are looking for history educators or history education professionals who have:

  • Strong English language skills;
  • Recent experience with teaching of history and citizenship education;
  • Strong interest and motivation to develop learning materials.
  • Experience with developing educational resources is an asset, but not necessary. We welcome applicants with all levels of development experience, and strongly encourage teacher trainees to apply.
  • Teachers based outside of Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland are also welcome to apply.

How to Apply

You can apply by submitting your CV and motivation letter (max. one page) to secretariat@euroclio.eu by November 2, 2023. A letter of support from your school/institution is a strong asset. All parts of the application must be submitted in English. We will be selecting 25 participants total for the event. Selections will be made the first week of November.

Keep in Mind

All applicants to the Budapest Academy must be willing to continue with the project either as an Author or Reviewer. Please indicate in your application whether you are still interested to be a Reviewer even if you are not selected as an Author.

Two kinds of Team Member positions are available: Authors (16) and Reviewers (9).

Authors:

  • Will develop the Module Kits in teams of two. Each team will be multinational (consisting of teachers from two different countries), and preferably be composed of an experienced teacher and a teacher trainee.
  • Must commit to the full 2-year project, including travel to the Budapest Academy, a local one-day dissemination event (Spring 2025) and the final networking event (Summer 2025). All travel, accommodation and meals will be covered or reimbursed.
  • Must commit to monthly online meetings with the development team to check in on the progress of their Module Kit.
  • Fee: 1000 EUR.

Reviewers:

  • Will act as consultants and contributors to the Module Kits, and will pilot the Module Kits in their own classroom in Spring 2024.
  • Must commit to travel to the Budapest Academy. Participation in a local dissemination event (Spring 2025) and the final networking event (Summer 2025) is optional. All travel, accommodation and meals will be covered or reimbursed.
  • Fee: 500 EUR.

We look forward to your applications!

*This is a preliminary list of topics, and we reserve the right to make changes.
