Expert Training for Archivists (15-17 July 2024, The Hague, Netherlands)
On 16 and 17 of July 2024 (with 15 July as Day of Arrivals), the Arolsen Archives and EuroClio organised the Expert Training for Archivists, hosted at the EuroClio offices in The Hague, Netherlands. The overall aim of the Training was to empower, inspire and build the capacity of professional archivists from different parts of Europe that have experience working with documents on the history of the Holocaust and WWII so that they are better prepared to work with youth.

International Teacher Training Summer School (7-9 August 2024, Timisoara, Romania)
For this Seminar, we invited the Team Members who will implement place-based learning local history projects with their students who will research the history of different victims of Nazi persecution and share the findings with a wider audience through co-created exhibitions, podcasts, graphic novels and heritage tours in their locale.

Expert Training for Museum Educators (29 September – 1 October 2024, The Hague, Netherlands)
On 29 September – 1 October 2024, the Intercultural Institute Timișoara (IIT), organised the Expert Training, hosted at the EuroClio Offices and co-organised by Terraforming and Arolsen Archives. The main aims of the Training were to facilitate an international exchange of knowledge, best practices and experience of museum educators in implementing educational activities on the topic of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution at their museums and within the framework of school partnerships.

Expert Training for Museum Curators (17-19 March 2025, The Hague, Netherlands)
On 17 – 19 March 2025, the Intercultural Institute Timișoara (IIT), organised the Expert Training, hosted at the EuroClio Offices and co-organised by Terraforming and Arolsen Archives. The main aims of the Training were to facilitate an international exchange of knowledge, best practices and experience of museum curators in curating museum exhibitions on the history of the Holocaust and World War II as well as to explore the role of museum curators in place-based and project-based learning activities of students working on the topic.

Local Youth Training Activity on Research (October 2024 – January 2025, Tampere & Helsinki (Finland), Belgrade & Novi Sad (Serbia), Bremen, Gelnhausen & Frankfurt (Germany), Timișoara, Bucharest, Constanta & Cluj-Napoca (Romania)
This activity focused on preparing and implementing the initial research activities of students on the local microhistories of different victims of Nazi persecution and the persecution by Nazi collaborators.

International Youth Workshop (3-6 April 2025, Bratislava, Slovakia)
The International Youth Workshop took place from 3 – 6 April 2025 (with 6 April as day of departures) in Bratislava, Slovakia, co-facilitated by EuroClio and Arolsen Archives. The aim of the Workshop was to provide the students involved in the Facts not Fiction project the opportunity to share their research projects with each other, exchange experiences, ideas and challenges, while reflecting on their learning journey so far in Facts not Fiction.

Expert Training for Tour Guides (29-31 July, The Hague, Netherlands)
On 30 and 31 July 2024 (with 29 July 2024 as Arrival Day), EuroClio welcomed professional tour
guides from Belgium, Germany, Netherlands and Serbia following an open call for participants. The Training was hosted by EuroClio and organised by Terraforming who delivered the content and the programme. The aim of the Expert Training was to bring together a group of professional tour guides with experience in creating guided history tours about the history of World War II and Nazi persecution in their own locale and to provide the space to share experiences and best practices and how guided history tours on this topic can be made more impactful to create engaging learning experiences for students.

Expert Training for Podcasters (2-4 December 2024, The Hague, Netherlands)
On December 3 and 4, 2024 (with December 2 as a travel day), EuroClio welcomed professional podcasters from Serbia, Poland, Croatia, Germany and the Netherlands following an open call for participants for the Expert Training for Podcasters at their offices in The Hague, Netherlands. The training was hosted and organised by EuroClio, which delivered the content and the programme. The Expert Training aimed to bring together a group of podcasters with experience in creating guided history tours about the history of World War II and Nazi persecution in their own locale and to provide the space to share experiences and best practices on how podcasts on this topic can also be made more impactful and engaging for younger audiences.

Expert Training for Graphic Novelists (21-23 January 2025, Novi Sad, Serbia)
From 21 – 23 January 2025, the Expert Training for Graphic Novelists took place in Novi Sad, Serbia and was organised by Terraforming. Graphic novelists, visual artists, as well as some teachers of the Facts not Fiction project whose students are going to create graphic novels as part of their local research projects.

Local Youth Training Activity on Creating an End Product (February-May 2025, across multiple locations in Romania, Serbia, Germany, Finland, Hungary & Estonia)
In the second round of the Local Youth Training Activities, the Teams and their students, co-organised and participated in a range of different activities (e.g. workshops, museum and memorial visits, film screenings) that would focus on translating the main findings of the research done by the students in the local history projects into the so-called end products.

International Research Event (8 October 2025 in Belgrade, Serbia & 9-11 December 2025 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany)
The Facts Not Fiction project includes comparative qualitative and quantitative research components examining how young people and educators experience place-based and project-based learning in the context of teaching the Second World War and the Holocaust. The research aims to understand learning processes, the role of physical spaces (including museums, archives, and places of memory), and the development of students’ competencies within long-term educational projects.
The International Research Event was organised at two seperate occasions, presenting the findings of the reserach to an international community of stakeholders:

Youth Training Activity on Community Impact (26-28 August 2025, 3 September 2025, 8-10 September 2025, 28 October 2025, 4 November 2025, 10 November 2025, 13 November 2025, 21 November 2025, 11-12 December 2025 in Constanta, Timisoara, Lugoj (Romania), Kavarna (Bulgaria), Budapest (Hungary), Riga (Latvia), Helsinki & Tampere (Finland), Gelnhausen (Germany))
As part of the Youth Training Activity on Community Impact, students worked on how their project results could be shared at local level. While developing their final products, they discussed different ways of reaching a wider audience, including public exhibitions followed by discussion or guided heritage tours. The form of dissemination was decided by the students themselves, who took responsibility for how their work would be presented.
The activity was implemented by partner schools in different countries and adapted to local contexts, with students taking the lead in developing and presenting their project outputs.
