Within education in Flanders and Brussels, the VVLG aims to unite all teachers of History, Social Studies, and related subjects with a significant historical component while fostering cooperation among them. Their broader mission includes promoting the teaching of history and civic education in schools, enhancing the quality of history and social formation instruction, and securing the necessary resources for these purposes. The VVLG also focuses on encouraging reflection on the meaning and role of history and historical and civic education. They are committed to collecting and disseminating information on the latest scientific developments in the field of history and its didactics, serving as a forum for curricular discussions, and acting as a liaison with the government, various agencies, and public opinion. Additionally, they promote continuing education, build connections between history, civic education, and society, and actively monitor and advocate for employment opportunities for individuals with historical education, both within and beyond the educational sector.
