Asociace pro didaktiku dějepisu z.s. (ADD)

The Association for the Didactics of History (ADD) brings together lecturers of history didactics at faculties of Education, Arts and other colleges providing education programs for future teachers of history in Czech Republic and other subjects related to the field and subject, supporting an interdisciplinary and constructivist approach to building historical literacy as an integral part of active citizenship. Motto: History education should create a space for dialogue and the cultivation of historical, reading, civic, media and digital literacy. ADD was established in the fall of 2021 on the resolution of lecturers in Didactics of History at most Czech college Departments of History, who provide the educatiion and professional training of future history teachers. ADD also brings together colleagues from other related institutions, such as institutes of history of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Czech Association of History Teachers (Asociace učitelů dějepisu, ASUD), this creating an interconneted web of professionals withing schools, colleges and academia. ADD is a voluntary, independent association bringing together its members on the basis of common interest. The activities of ADD are mainly aimed at secondary and high school teachers of History and Social Sciences, at university teachers and students of History and Education. But in general ADD activities are open to everyone who is interested in ADD activities. Since 2023 ADD organises the annual Didactics of History Conference (September 2023 Olomouc, September 2024 Liberec TBA).

THE OBJECTIVES OF ADD ARE IN PARTICULAR:

1) to promote the idea of Historical Thinking/Historical literacy as an integral part of active citizenship and advocate for improving the quality of history teaching within the Czech education system

2) to increase the prestige of History Teaching, it´s Didacticts and the popularization of the abovemnetioned reflective, dialogical forms of History Education

3) to connect its members with each other and enable intra-disciplinary dialogue and sharing of experience across the educational system and in the public sphere in Czech Republic

4) to provide ADD members with methodological and didactic support for teaching and inform ADD members about important issues and innovations in area of History Education

5) actively participate in commenting and opposing concepts of educational policies in Czech Republic in the field of History Education and the sphere of humanities/social science in general

6) to participate in international dialogue on History Teaching with other associations and subjects related to the field
