On 26 September 2025, EuroClio, together with the Department of Social Work at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, co-hosted the international symposium "Untold Histories: Sinti and Roma in Our Classrooms." The event brought together teachers, educators, policymakers, community members, and students to explore how Sinti and Roma histories can be better represented in European education.

The day began with a roundtable on Roma and Sinti voices in education, moderated by EuroClio's Andreas Holtberget, and featuring Roma activists Jay Galjus and Cheyenne Wijts, alongside Misko Stanisic, director and co-founder of Terraforming, an NGO dedicated to Holocaust memory and education, and to countering antisemitism and antigypsyism. Discussions highlighted the IHRA Recommendations on teaching about the persecution and genocide of the Roma during the Nazi era, while also addressing ongoing challenges such as prejudice, stereotypes, and the persistence of antigypsyism.

Next on the agenda was a guided city walk with cultural anthropologist Peter Jorna, who began with a contextual introduction on the history of Roma and Sinti in The Hague, helping participants situate the stories they encountered along the route. The afternoon featured two workshops: one led by Misko Stanisic on the Tajsa collection of video podcasts and educational resources on Roma identity, the legacy of the genocide, and community empowerment; and another, 'The Roma – From Slavery to Emancipation,' presented by Liviu Moise and Larisa Leganger Bronde. The programme concluded with an Audiovisual Discovery session, featuring an exhibition by photographer Peter van Beek and screenings from the Tajsa project, including Settela – Recognition of the Genocide and Art of Resistance – Guns and Guitars.

The symposium created a valuable space for dialogue and exchange among participants from across Europe, reaffirming the importance of inclusive and multiperspective history education in addressing the histories and ongoing struggles of Sinti and Roma communities.
