On 18-23 July, over 80 people from 18 countries, including history educators, policy makers and civil society representatives gathered in the beautiful mountain resort of Llogora, near Vlore, Albania. ALBNA, the Albanian History Teachers Association hosted what is already the 3rd Regional “History that Connects the Balkans” Summer School. The programme was very engaging and interactive, as its main aim was to explore themes, topics and strategic plans which the wider community in the region can undertake together over the coming year. Especially History Teachers Associations from the region took up the responsibility to foster and build a more common agenda of cooperation, both nationally as well as across border, in the light of increasing political abuse of history in their societies. The summer school was enriched through contributions by the Anne Frank House, the Centre for Democracy and Reconciliation in Southeast Europe, the Institute for Democracy, Media and Culture, and the OSCE Presence in Albania.
The summer school was made possible thanks to the integration in the programme of the 2nd Standing Working Group on History Education, part of the ePACT project implemented by CDRSEE and EuroClio, and the support of the EU TACSO People-2-People programme, which foster regional dialogue on relevant issues.
