Inspired by the materials of Changing Democracies, our colleagues from the Evens Foundation, Hanna Zielińska and Marjolein Delvou co-developed the self-paced online course How to work with micro-stories about systemic transition to discuss democracy with young people that is now available on Xperiencify.

In Changing Democracies, more than 30 testimonies were collected from individuals across 10 European countries who experienced a democratic transition. Their stories about life under authoritarian regimes, resistance, hope, expectations and democratic transitions invite us to critically reflect on what democracy means today.

EuroClio guided the development of the Changing Democracies Educational Resources Pack that offers a wide range of learning activities that demonstrate how these testimonies, and how oral history, can be used to teach about the history of authoritarian regimes, democratic transitions and encourage young people to explore the topic of democracy.

The course

The self-paced online course takes a deep dive into the educational potential of micro-stories, presenting different approaches, tips and tricks for educators working in different contexts on how to make use of the Changing Democracies materials.

In 8 Modules, you will be guided by Hanna, Marjolein and the Partners from the Changing Democracies Consortium who share their expertise, experience and insights from engaging young people with testimonies, how this can be done in the history classroom (and beyond), and from a transnational perspective.
