Topography for History
Topografia per la Storia (TPS) is an Italian cultural association based in Rome, active since 2015, dedicated to historical research and public dissemination on the places and routes of twentieth-century history. As its name indicates, the association’s method is topographical: it maps sites of internment and violence as well as deportation routes, and works to reactivate their memory locally. TPS runs three open-access digital platforms: campifascisti.it, a database of the camps established by Fascist Italy for civilian internees, prisoners of war and political prisoners; the portal lavoroforzato.topografiaperlastoria.org on forced labour under Fascism and National Socialism; and the portal memorial-arbe-rab.org dedicated to the Arbe/Rab concentration camp. In addition to its platforms, the association develops databases, including databases of internees and deportees. It also organises training courses for teachers, workshops for secondary school students, and memory journeys, and cooperates with archives, research institutions and civil society organisations in Italy, Germany and Southeast Europe.
