The Advisors are people with a long track record of working with EuroClio and a relevant area of expertise.
What is the role of the Advisors?
The Advisors are asked by the EuroClio Board and Secretariat to share their expertise and network to help EuroClio grow as a professional organization and increase and deepen its impact.
In addition, EuroClio's founder, Joke van der Leeuw-Roord, continues to support the association in her role as Founder and Special Advisor.

Joke van der Leeuw-Roord
Joke van der Leeuw-Roord, Historian and History Educator. Founding President, former Director and currently Special Advisor of EUROCLIO, The European Association of History Educators. She was until 2022 Secretary General of the Brussels Platform for Lifelong Learning and Treasurer and Vice-President of the European Foundation. She co-founded EuroClio on request of the Council of Europe in 1992, in cooperation with representatives of 17 History Educators Associations. She developed into a renowned international expert on innovative and transnational history, heritage and citizenship education. In that capacity, she has initiated and coordinated a multitude of national and trans-national capacity building projects in Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey and Ukraine. EuroClio work also brought her to all European countries, but also to Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, South Korea and the United States. She has operated as a consultant for the UNESCO, OSCE, Council of Europe, the European Union and International Alert. She lectured and published widely on questions related to responsible and innovative approaches to inclusive history, citizenship and heritage education. Recently, she has been the host of the Winds of Change podcast series, where she reflects with active members of the EuroClio community on their motivations and key developments in history and citizenship education over the past decades.
