The Society for Historical Sciences in Romania was created in 1949, it is a non-governmental, non-profit  organization and has 36 branches with almost 500 members. In Romania it is the largest professional association in the field of historical studies, encompassing history teachers, researchers, archivists, museum specialists, students and other people who participate in the production and dissemination of historical knowledge.

It publishes since 1955 a yearbook – „Studii și articole de istorie” (,,Studies and articles of history”), organizes summer schools, as well as a large number of other conferences and projects aimed to foster historical knowledge and help history teachers.
