The Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung/bpb) invites interested persons to their international symposium “IRRESISTIBLE?”, which will take place from 16 to 18 June 2017 at the dbb Forum in Berlin. IRRESISTIBLE? is a cooperation project of the Federal Agency for Civic Education and the Goethe-Institute Ukraine, supported by the Federal Foreign Office.
Corruption is a highly complex social phenomenon that defies clear definition. In the long term, corruption in all its various forms is certain to negatively affect modernization and transformation processes and to produce inequality. Corruption is present in various qualities and quantities around the world – in Eastern European countries it is part of everyday life, both in the public and private sector.
During the international symposium, corruption will be examined from different angles. The focus will not only be laid on political and economic aspects; corruption’s effects on the social, cultural, historical, religious, artistic, philosophical and civic dimension and journalism will also be discussed.
Participants of the international symposium have the opportunity to discuss and engage with experts and multipliers from the wide field of corruption research and the fight against corruption. In a broad range of panels on theories of corruption, globalised networks and corruption in civil society, the symposium approaches the topic from interdisciplinary perspectives. Additional agenda highlights include a corresponding cultural programme with concert, exhibition, movie screening and guided city tours.
The symposium addresses everyone who is interested or involved in projects with a focus on corruption or the fight against corruption. The symposium will start with an optional pre-conference on June 16, with various workshops.
There is no conference fee. Travel expenses will be reimbursed, participants are accommodated in a central hotel and integrated into all offered activities. The symposium will be held in English / German with simultaneous translation – pre-conference workshops are in English without translation.
