SUMMARY:International Symposium 2026
DESCRIPTION:How can we teach about migration in ways that are historically grounded\, inclusive and engaging? Join us on Friday\, 25 September at the Wereldmuseum Rotterdam for this year’s International Symposium: Teaching Migration: Exploring Histories of Migration in and Beyond the Classroom. Together with teachers\, teacher trainers\, educators\, researchers and other education professionals\, we will explore this question through inspiring workshops\, practical examples and exchanging ideas.  \nMigration is an integral part of our shared past and present. It has shaped societies\, cultures and identities throughout history\, and continues to influence our communities. While migration is often discussed as a contemporary issue\, exploring it through a historical lens helps us better understand both the continuities and the changes that have shaped Europe over time. As the topic becomes increasingly visible in public discourse and education\, it also raises important questions for educators. How can we teach about migration in ways that are historically grounded\, inclusive and engaging? How can we make space for different perspectives and lived experiences? How can we support learners with diverse backgrounds while encouraging meaningful dialogue in classrooms and other educational settings? \nThe International Symposium will invite participants to explore these questions through a keynote presentation\, a variety of interactive workshops and discussions. We will also explore the ways in which the Wereldmuseum Rotterdam connects objects to local migration history during a tour in the immediate surroundings of the museum\, and reflect on how you\, as an educator\, can apply this method in your context. Participants will discover practical teaching approaches\, educational resources and examples of how histories and experiences of migration can be explored through different historical sources\, such as biographies\, personal stories and local heritage.  \nYou can already register here and keep an eye out on our website and social media channels as the full programme and workshop offer will be launched very soon! \nWe look forward to seeing you at the Wereldmuseum Rotterdam! \nAdmission \nGeneral Admission: 20 EUR \nStudent:                      Free \nRetiree:                       Free \nCoffee\, snacks\, lunch and drinks are provided.  \nRegister
