SUMMARY:Graphic Novelists Expert Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to announce the call for the Graphic Novelists Expert Training Workshop in Novi Sad\, Serbia. The training will take place from January 22 until January 23 2025\, with January 21 as the day of early arrivals. We will share the programme along with more details with the selected participants. On the evening of January 23\, the participants can choose to participate in the public event dedicated to the commemoration of the Novi Sad Raid\, a mass crime committed by Hungarian Fascists against predominantly Jewish and Serbian civilians in Novi Sad in 1941. \n  \nAbout the Project \nIn partnership with Terraforming\, Intercultural Institute Timișoara\, and the Arolsen Archives\, EuroClio is leading the project\,  Facts Not Fiction – Young Historians Show How to Learn from the Past. This project is addressed to history educators and other professionals and institutions in the field of memorialisation. The aim is to train students and youth groups to research local histories of persecution during the Nazi era and develop their own end products based on these findings. Among the students’ creations are a graphic novel\, a podcast\, a heritage tour and an exhibition. Related to this\, we are organising several training workshops with experts on these topics. \n  \nWho are we looking for? \nFor this particular event\, we are looking for graphic novelists\, illustrators\, scriptwriters\, and other creators interested in depicting the stories from the Second World War following contemporary pedagogical guidelines. Those interested in the history of totalitarianism\, the Holocaust memorial\, and mid-20th century histories of migration and persecution should definitely apply. However\, those with little background in the Second World War as well as those with experience in other related areas are also encouraged to submit an application.  \n  \nHow can you apply to join us? \nPlease send us a letter of motivation detailing your interest in the training\, including an explanation of relevant projects you have worked on. DESCRIPTION:Join the Choices Program and EuroClio as we examine the student readings and lessons in the newest Choices Program’s curriculum\, The Weimar Republic and the Rise of Nazi Germany. The unit examines the dynamic\, complex history of the Weimar era in Germany and interwar Europe more generally\, including case studies on Essen\, Berlin\, and Munich. It offers insights that help explain the rise of Nazism\, political and economic shifts before and after World War I\, and social and cultural changes of 1920s and 1930s Germany.We’ll discuss the core skills addressed in the unit including developing historical empathy\, analyzing historical evidence\, and constructing effective historical arguments. DESCRIPTION:We are opening a call for participants for a new initiative launched by EuroClio and Europeana to promote the use of cultural heritage in education.  \nIn ‘Creating Lessons with Cultural Heritage’ we will dive into the untapped wealth of cultural heritage available through museums\, archives and other cultural institutions to create ready-to-use materials for the classroom \n  \nHow will we do this? \nWe will work with teacher leaders and cultural heritage professionals from five different countries on the co-creation of ready-to-use eLearning activities that make use of digital cultural heritage collections.  \nParticipants will have the opportunity to attend a fully-funded 1.5 day co-creation programme in The Hague on 16th-18th May\, 2025.  \nParticipants will be introduced to a range of teaching and learning strategies\, and work with facilitators to adapt these to their local context and language. Having developed new activities that promote digital cultural collections in the classroom\, participants will then host active workshops to introduce these resources to at least 20 educator peers in their respective countries. \n  \nWhat are we looking for? \nWe are looking for enthusiastic educators and cultural heritage professionals who would like to take part in this exciting new initiative to develop classroom activities that make use of digital cultural sources\, and who are willing to take on a leadership role in sharing these activities with educator peers in their own country.  \nThe educator leaders will be expected to: \n\nParticipate in a 1.5 day co-creation programme 16th-18th May (a working level of English is necessary).\nPrepare for the co-creation programme by bringing their own sources.\nFollowing the co-creation programme\, host national workshops to introduce their eLearning resources to educator peers.\n\n  \nWhat do we offer? \n\nOpportunity to meet with like-minded people and organisations.\nA hands-on\, collaborative programme that will introduce teacher leaders to eLearning activities and help them to create their own.\nFully-funded residency (travel and accommodation) in The Hague.\n\n  \nHow to apply \nPlease send a CV and motivation letter to annaroizes@euroclio.eu. \nYour motivation letter should include: \n\nYour background\, including your professional work and country of residence.\nThe digital cultural heritage collection you would like to use for the creation of classroom activities.\nA plan detailing how you will disseminate the eLearning activities to at least 20 educator peers in your country of residence through hosting a workshop\, adapting resources to local needs.\n\nIt would be beneficial for applicants to have the support of a cultural heritage institute\, but this is not required if you have a distinct digital cultural heritage collection in mind.  \nThe application will include a round of interviews. \n  \nThe deadline for applications is Tuesday 8th April at 18:00 CET.

DESCRIPTION:The European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) in partnership with Historians without Borders (HWB) are delighted to invite you to the 13th European Remembrance Symposium & International Conference on the 50th Anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act: The Spirit of Helsinki Then and Now in collaboration with the University of Helsinki\, the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Germany\, the Leibniz-Institute of European History (IEG)\, the Religion and Cold War Network (ReCoNet) and the Aue Foundation. It will be held on 10—13 June 2025 in the Finlandia Hall and at the University of Helsinki. The conference will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act\, often called a ‘masterpiece of diplomacy’\, and will ask about its significance for international relations today. \nThe annual symposium\, hosted by the ENRS in partnership with other institutions\, aims to promote collaboration among researchers and educators of 20th-century European history. The accompanying international conference will focus on the impact the Helsinki Final Act had on civil society\, the efficacy of human rights as well as religious actors and the formation of Helsinki groups across Europe and North America. \nThe registration is free of charge. SUMMARY:International Symposium - Untold Histories: Sinti and Roma in Our Classrooms
DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted by EuroClio and department Social Work of The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS)\, this event will bring together teachers\, educators\, policymakers\, community members and students to explore approaches in educating about the histories of Sinti\, Roma and other related groups. \nSinti and Roma are the largest pan-European ethnic minority. Yet the past of Sinti and Roma is rarely part of history lessons. The result is that pupils of Roma and Sinti heritage may not encounter their past in history classrooms\, while myths and stereotypes are allowed to continue in the minds of the majority populations. There are a number of reasons why educators might shy away from these histories: A lack of knowledge about the pasts of these communities; a lack of cultural understanding leading to avoidance of what could be seen as a sensitive or emotional topic; or simply because they may be very short on time due to curricular constraints.  \nThis symposium will highlight why the inclusion of Roma and Sinti histories is important\, both in a Dutch and European context. It will additionally present concrete ideas for inclusive teaching strategies and lesson plans. The symposium will feature a plenary session with roundtable discussions\, followed by interactive workshops showcasing inclusive educational approaches as well as a city walk highlighting places of relevance to the Roma and Sinti communities in The Hague. The city walk will be organised and led by students at THUAS who have taken the minor ‘Inclusivity in the City’ along with members of the Sinti and Roma communities in The Hague. Connecting the local histories of Sinti and Roma in The Hague and the Netherlands with a larger European context\, the Symposium will aim to inspire dialogue and inclusion of marginalised historical narratives in education.  \nAdmission: €20. SUMMARY:Making Visegrad Histories Digital Autumn School
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Making Visegrad Histories Digital project\, we are pleased to invite history educators to a 2\,5-day Autumn School. The event\, jointly hosted with the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and the Institute of Social Sciences\, will take place in Košice\, Slovakia\, from 23 to 25 October. \nThe Autumn School will promote educational materials developed by the Making Visegrad Histories project\, feature panel discussions on the history of State Socialism in the Visegrad region\, a historic city walk of Košice as well as other active work sessions designed primarily for history teachers. \nAn aim of the Autumn School is to foster a network of history educators interested in the shared 20th century histories of the Central European region. \nPlease note that we have closed registrations for this event.

DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the Internatonal Society for History Didactics (ISHD)\, we invite you to join us online 12 November at 15:00 CET for a webinar discussing the preliminary findings of the ongoing Youth and History research\, exploring youth attitudes towards history across Europe. Dr. Johanna Norppa (University of Helsinki) will share some of the findings from the Finnish study.
