The Council of Europe is really active in the field of education trying to improve its quality and helping to incorporate the principles of democracy, tolarance and mutual respect.
Since the mid-1990s the CoE started to work on History Teaching in the Russian Federation organising different activities and seminars on various topics.

The Coe's aim is finalized to develop:
- Curricula and standards in history teaching;
- The preparation and publication of new history textbooks;
- The in-service training of history teachers, and assessment and testing.
