Annual Conference of the Panhellenic Association of Philologists
EUROCLIO associate member association P.E.F., the Panhellenic Association of Philologists, with the cooperation of local Association of Philologists of the island of Lesvos organized the 36th Annual Panhellenic Conferencem at the beautiful town of Mytilini in the Aegean island of Lesvos. The topic of the conference was ‘The Place of Literature in Secondary Education’, exploring the contribution of literature - which is included as compulsory subject in both curricula of Lower and Upper Secondary Education in Greece for two hours per week- to the acquaintance of pupils with culture, history and society, the broadening of their intellectual horizon, the improvement of critical thinking and the enrichment of their linguistic skills. Lesvos is an island with great literature tradition (poetry and proze), starting from Antiquity ( poets Arion, Alkaios, Sapho) to modern times (Myrivilis, Venezis, the Nobel prize winner Odysseus Ellytis). Participant philologists came of all parts of Greece and the conference was a great success.
